Carly Ostrem—2022 Recipient

Carly Ostrem—2022 Recipient

I grew up in Leavenworth and have been interested in theatre and music for as long as I can remember. I have taken voice lessons since I was eight years old and have been a part of Cascade Select Choir through high school. I have also been in many musicals in Leavenworth and Wenatchee. This fall, I will be attending Washington State University to study Child Development and Music.

I feel very honored to be receiving the Village Art in the Park Scholarship. This scholarship will help me achieve my goals in higher education. Thank you, Village Art in the Park, for providing me with this support!

Mia Lopez—2021 Recipient

Mia Lopez - 2021 Merit Scholarship Recipient

Ever since I was a little girl, I enjoyed being creative and artistic. I love to draw, paint, perform, and do so many other mediums of art I feel I could not define myself with just a few. After high school I enrolled in the local community college, Wenatchee Valley College, in the Graphic Design Program in 2019. I’m now graduating this June 18th, 2021, with my Technical degree in Graphic Design and an Associates in General Studies, both with honors. I’m now on my way to further pursue art at Central Washington University in the Fall. My plan is to either finish my Bachelors in Art and Design or to enroll in their Graphic Design program.

It’s been my lifelong dream to attend university! As a first-generation student, there are so many hurdles to jump and challenges to overcome. Graduating from high school, it was tough to find that I could not afford university. But because of the amazing people at Village Art in the Park, I now can! I will be using the scholarship award to help cover the cost of university. The Village Art in the Park Scholarship is so important to me and my future success at Central Washington University! This scholarship provides an amazing opportunity for me to continue on to higher education. I am so grateful for this, thank you all!

Natalie Craig—2020 Recipient

Natalie Craig – 2020 Recipient

I grew up in Leavenworth and spend my free time playing golf, watching Disney movies and baking. My favorite medium is acrylic paint, and I love big projects like painting tables. I will be attending Oregon State University in Corvallis, and will be majoring in Innovation and Design Management, and minoring in Interior design. I am excited be taking classes like Graphic Design, Color Innovation, and Design Management, and will later have the opportunity for an Interior Design internship.

The Village Art in The Park scholarship will give me an amazing opportunity to pursue my passion of art and design. Because I am attending and out-of-state college, one who doesn’t offer the Western Undergraduate Exchange Program, this scholarship will provide me with a sense of financial stability that I am so grateful for. I am beyond thankful for Village Art in The Park and to live in such a supportive community.

Kendra Emry—2020 Recipient

Kendra Emry - 2020 Recipient

I will be starting my sophomore year at DigiPen in the fall of 2021. With your assistance my freshman year I was able to learn how to use Gouache, perspective in landscapes, figure drawing, anatomy, animation and still lifes. My first year at DigiPen I was truly amazed at what I learned, and I look forward to adding more knowledge of art my 2nd year.

My sophomore year the focus is 3D modeling and the digital side of art. I am excited to be a part of my first “teams” group, called Spooky Town. I will be one of the artist that will work with others in creating a
game.

Thanks to Art in the Park for your continued support so I can further explore the world
of art!

Andrea Sorensen—2018 Recipient

Andrea Sorensen - 2018 Recipient

Andrea departed this world on 11 November 2021. Please read about Andrea and her accomplishments here.

In Andrea’s honor the remainder of her Art in the Park scholarship was given to Camas Meadows Bible Camp.

Gracie Camp—2017 Recipient

Gracie Camp - 2017 Recipient

Gracie Camp is a plant enthusiast, lover of music, and amateur bread baker who grew up in Leavenworth. Currently, she is an English Language and Literature major and a Music minor at Central Washington University where she also works as a peer writing tutor. In her free time, Gracie enjoys cuddling with her dog, reading historical fantasy novels, playing Dungeons and Dragons and forcing everyone she knows to watch The Lord of the Rings (extended editions, of course).

The Village Art in the Park scholarship has helped me so much in my college career. Having the financial stability it grants has allowed me to explore the college experience fully. I’ve taken fascinating classes, made amazing friends and most importantly, I have been able to find my passions and pursue them in ways I never imagined. Village Art in the Park has been such a wonderful support in my life, and I am so grateful for everything they have done for me and so many other people in the community.
