Christopher Gerber

Christopher Gerber is a Wisconsin native and received his BFA in Metalsmithing/Jewelry from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. He has worked and shown in the US and the UK, and currently resides in Central Washington as a practicing goldsmith/jeweler.

First exposed as a child to the wild spaces of Wisconsin, Christopher Gerber currently traverses the Pacific Northwest (and beyond), dissecting and interpreting the wilderness and backcountry of the region through traditional metalsmithing techniques. Daunting peaks and gargantuan vistas are scaled and broken down into comprehensible pieces, allowing manageable interpretation. As a practicing goldsmith and bench jeweler, and through his leadership in the local alpine climbing community, Gerber has explored formal techniques from both worlds to help him achieve a better understanding of the space he lives in. He works towards understanding his own movements through these wild spaces by reflecting on them through his work. From a personal standpoint as well as a yearning to connect with others, he looks toward his works as a means of instilling both wonder and wanderlust in those who view and engage with it.
